For most students in China, Friday is the final day for the Gaokao - the National Higher Education Entrance Exam.

This is a big relief for high school students across the country who have devoted years of effort to one common goal: admission to college. Some 9 million students are taking this year’s test. Although the Ministry of Education says the over-all college admission rate will rise to 75% this year, competition for spots at China’s elite universities is no less fierce than before.
