The cold front that is sweeping large parts of China’s northeast where many provinces will see strong winds and falling temperatures.
Temperatures will decline by 10 to 12 degree Celsius in Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Shandong, Hebei, Shanxi and Gansu Provinces as well as the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The Xinjiang Autonomous Region saw its first snowfall of the year on Friday, and in some mountainous regions, temperatures have dropped by 25 degrees. Also a new round of snowfall has hit Heilongjiang Province, forcing highways to close.
Meanwhile, in the city of Yantai in Shandong Province, a blue cold front alert and a yellow wind alert has been issued, with heavy winds and steep temperature drops forecast in the coming days. Ships have been requested to return to port.
Meanwhile, rainfall and smog can still be seen in Eastern China’s Jiangsu Province. As for typhoon Haiyan, which is expected to hit China in the coming days, the center of the typhoon was 730 kilometers southeast of southern China’s Hainan province this morning. In response, Hainan Province has launched a level three emergency response system, warning residents in coastal areas to take precautionary measures. Typhoon Haiyan made landfall on the central Philippines on Friday, killing at least 100 people in the city of Tacloban.
