President Bashar al-Assad has visited injured soldiers in hospital, as international pressure mounted on the Syrian leader to stand down.

Syrian News Agency SANA said Assad gave orders for the men to be provided with whatever care they needed. Syria says more than 2,000 security force members have been killed by militants during the 10-month unrest.

Tuesday’s hospital visit came ahead of a push at the United Nations Security Council for a resolution calling for Assad to give up powers.
