The 18th CPC National Congress has just concluded, and media around the world have been covering the grand event.
This year’s Party Congress was a media event in the truest sense of the word with as many journalists as delegates this year. And the press has been given more freedom than ever to report and ask questions.
Zhai Huisheng, Press Center Director of 18 CPC National Congress, said, "Journalists from oversees make up half of all journalists who asked questions, and there were 1,800 applications for individual interviews - that’s a 27% increase from the 17th CPC National Congress."
The Party was open to questions about the discussions, and a number of governmental and party bodies were open for inquiry, helping the global media understand one of the most fascinating parts of China.
As journalists arrived early to get into good position for coverage, some even started interviewing their colleagues.
TV coverage was provided to the world free of charge via the press centre, and CCTV also played a big role. 389 TV broadcaster from 133 countries used their signal of the opening ceremony. Many journalists believe this all to be a sign of the progress in China.
And with an ever-growing focus on China, you can be sure that the press will continue to be hungry for whatever they can to help them understand the country.
