Before joining CCTV in February 2005, Tian worked in Washington providing up to the minute news and analysis for China. From there, she covered the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. An active Chinese journalist in the United States, Tian produced stories and interviewed people from all walks of life. During her tenure, she covered the Chinese Presidential and Prime Ministerial visits to North America.

Tian began her career at China Radio International in Beijing, the only international radio broadcaster in China. She enjoyed herself behind the microphone: first as a news announcer and reporter, then executively producing a weekly talk show. She also anchored and produced business and a morning news magazine program.

Over the years, Tian has interviewed hundreds of people from 40 different countries and regions around the world.

Tian has received numerous journalism awards, including China's national award for international broadcasters and the National Journalism Award.
